The décor is simple in the
restaurant with pale walls offset by a collection of
original French watercolours, giving the rooms a bright
and airy feel, while the crisp white linen on the tables
is enhanced by a stunning flagstone floor.
The lounge and drawing room are comfortable with deep
squashy sofas, and abundance of fresh flowers colourful
rugs and oak beams where drinks, canapés and
complimentary olives are served before dinner. Guests
may stay to linger after their meal in front of a
roaring fire before the walk-in inglenook.
With it’s own private drawing room, the Sanctum is the
perfect venue for a special occasion or business
meeting. Seating up to 20, it has a delightful aspect
opening onto the terrace with views across the expanse
of mown lawn in the walled garden. The lawn can easily
accommodate a marquee making The Old Priory the perfect
venue for a small family wedding or cocktail party.
Homemade breads, sauces, ice creams and petits fours to
accompany the coffee are prepared each morning. Fresh
fish arrives daily each morning from Brixham in Devon as
does the meat, dairy produce and vegetables which are
all sourced locally. Local farmers provide cheese and
game, and fresh herbs and vegetables are picked from The
Old Priory’s kitchen garden.
At lunchtime the restaurant serves a more simple menu
with a bias towards traditional British foods, fresh
fish and seasonal salads. Wine has been chosen to
complement the food perfectly, including several
reasonably priced house wines, many of which are
available by the glass, as well as classic choices.
