A lovely relaxing, smoke-free atmosphere infuses our city centre bistro. The décor with polished elm floors, bright continental prints & posters, numerous plants and candles provides a warm and interesting backdrop.
Co-owner Steve Smith is the head chef, assisted by Paul Hearne and Sarah Grantins, responsible for producing great food from a wonderfully varied menu. We change the main menu seasonally to which we add a daily changing "specials" menu. On Wednesday evenings, this "specials" menu is devoted to fresh fish, such as seabass, John Dory, monkfish, scallops and gravadlax.
At lunchtime we aim to provide a lighter style of meal with a separate menu, also changing daily. Sautée chicken liver salad with bacon and garlic, pork rissoles with apples and cider sauce. We even serve chips! (French fries)
Charles Home, Steve's business partner, looks after the dining room and greets the guests, offering interesting good value wines and bottled beers. To liven up the start of every week, we offer an even better deal as on Monday and Tuesday evening, you may bring your own wine. We won't charge you corkage either.
No.5 is halfway between Pulteney Bridge and Laura Place. Listed in AA Best Restaurants (2 Rosettes) and The Good Food Guide. As we have only twelve tables, please reserve your table as we fill up quickly.
Big news for 1998: We are now a totally no-smoking restaurant.
